Why I Do What I Do

I have happily spent my adult life in service to others.  First as a teacher and then as a paramedic.  I enjoy helping those around me, and I truly believe education is a fundamental element of self-improvement.

As a teacher, I was part of a culture where the ideology of the education system overall "knows better" but does not "do better.”  From large class sizes, to being ultimately exam focused, from low pay for amazing talent, to lack of support in many ways: teaching is a field where many are stifled simply because a lack of implementation of best practices.

My EMS company put best practices into motion"; it was phenomenal! We were clinically among the top in the nation. Unfortunately, EMS is an abused system and EMS workers are negatively impacted by many. During my time as a paramedic, I spent many hours listening to patients tell me about their chronic problems and that they had no avenue to get better.  Patients often misunderstood how to do what the doctor had prescribed, and they thought that prescription medications were the only answer. People wanted to tell their story and get answers so they could heal, not just another ride to the emergency room.

Integrative Health is a field where when we "know better" we "do better.” Integrative Health focuses on natural improvements and is not trying to reinvent the wheel.
